Inside the Historical Restoration & Design of The Avery Hotel | Boise, Idaho
This film explores the @KovichCo design philosophy behind The Avery Hotel project, a historic architectural landmark originally constructed in 1910 and located in the heart of downtown Boise. Originally constructed in 1910, the building once operated as the Manitou Hotel, serving travelers on its upper floors while housing businesses like the Bouquet Bar, a cigar shop, and the Bos/Strand Theater below. After ceasing operations in the 1960s, the building fell into disrepair until renovations began on what now houses The Avery Hotel, The Avery Bar & Restaurant, and Tiner's Alley Tavern. The renovation focused on preserving the building’s historical character while reimagining it as a boutique hotel rooted in authenticity. The design vision centered on honoring the building’s 1920–1935 heyday, blending functional elegance with period-appropriate details. The design process involved extensive historical research, including the study of original architectural drawings, historic documents, and even a 1910 Sears Roebuck catalog to better understand the materials, furnishings, and design decisions that would have been accessible at the time. One example of this research-driven approach is the custom latticework room dividers found in select suites—an architectural solution inspired by early 20th-century design that balances privacy and openness. Today, The Avery Hotel stands as Boise’s only remaining historic hotel where guests can sleep in rooms once occupied by travelers over 100 years ago—preserving a tangible connection between past and present. 00:00 Introduction to The Avery Hotel 00:10 The History of the Building 00:37 The Manitou Hotel & Early Boise 00:57 Design Vision: 1920–1935 01:13 Research & Design Challenges 01:59 Historic Latticework Details 02:14 Preserving Legacy & Experience Watch the full Avery Hotel series here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyS78i99HjN_eFbqzY8jIgE258NdvNgZM #BoiseIdaho #HistoricRenovation #BoiseArchitecture #AdaptiveReuse #HistoricHotels #BoutiqueHotelDesign #PreservationDesign #HospitalityDesign #InteriorArchitecture #DesignRestoration #HotelDesign

The Avery Hotel | Design Procurement & Installation
This film explores the design and installation process behind The Avery Hotel, a historic boutique hotel, restaurant, and tavern in downtown Boise, Idaho - where every design decision was informed by the building’s rich architectural past. Led by our team at @KovichCo Interiors, we approached the project with the intention of creating individuality without visual chaos - an essential balance for a 39-room boutique hotel. Rather than repeating rooms, expression came through furniture, art, textiles, and accessories that felt layered, intentional, and era-appropriate. To guide the design, four fictional guest personalities were created. Edna, Isham, Egon, and Teddy each influenced materials, furnishings, and art selections throughout the hotel. The hotel features more than 300 carefully curated and unique works of art - vintage, antique, and newly commissioned - alongside 85 pieces of antique furniture, each carefully restored to feel as though it had always belonged. Complex logistics required every item to be sourced, tracked, shipped, received, and inspected with precision. Additionally, two commissioned works by local Boise artist Jany Rae Seda directly reference the building’s history, including a reinterpretation of a historic photograph tied to the site. The result is a hotel experience that feels effortless, personal, and deeply connected to its era. Our work across The Avery project reflects how we approach design: led by research, informed by history, and carried through with intention, craftsmanship, and respect for the story a space is meant to tell. 00:00 Designing The Avery Hotel 00:06 Honoring History Through Design 00:22 Boutique Approach & Scale 00:37 The Four Guest Personalities 01:25 Edna: Jazz-Era Elegance 01:44 Isham: The Scholarly Naturalist 02:01 Egon: The Tortured Artist 02:13 Teddy: Rough Rider Western 00:56 Art & Antique Furnishings 02:29 Installation & Logistics 02:46 Commissioned Artwork 03:14 Final Outcome & Guest Experience Watch the full Avery Hotel series here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyS78i99HjN_eFbqzY8jIgE258NdvNgZM #TheAveryHotel #HospitalityInteriors #InteriorInstallation #DesignProcurement #CustomFurnitureDesign #ArtCuration #BoutiqueHotelInteriors #InteriorDesignDetails #DesignExecution #BehindTheBuild #InteriorDesignProcess #Boiseidaho

Behind KovichCo Interiors | Our Design Process
At KovichCo, design for us is often about cohesion - how structure, material and detail come together to create spaces that feel intentional and enduring. This film offers an inside look at how that thinking shapes our process, from initial ideas through final execution. Our process starts by understanding people, not just projects. We take the time to learn how our clients live, move, and gather - so the spaces we design feel personal, functional, and lasting. That depth of understanding builds trust, allowing us to challenge assumptions, propose thoughtful solutions, and balance beauty with real utility. Behind the scenes, we embrace complexity so our clients don’t have to. Our team manages every layer - from design connections and custom fabrication to procurement and logistics - working closely with local craftspeople to refine ideas in real time. When the right solution doesn’t exist, we design and build it, ensuring each element is not only beautiful, but functional, buildable, and fully aligned with the space it belongs to. Art plays a critical role in how we think and communicate. We use it to establish mood, emotion, and narrative - often conveying feeling more powerfully than images of finished rooms alone. From early concept through execution, art helps anchor the vision and ensure the final space delivers the experience we set out to create. While function often leads our decisions, we will always believe beauty has purpose. Some elements exist simply to bring joy, provoke feeling, or create pause. That, too, is essential in lasting design. 00:00 A Total Work of Art 00:03 Designing as a Complete System 00:25 Custom Work & Organic Spaces 00:50 Understanding the Client 01:00 Trust as the Foundation 01:32 Art as Storytelling 01:58 Embracing Complexity 02:40 Working with Local Craftspeople 02:52 Beauty as Function #KovichCoInteriors #InteriorDesignStudio #DesignStudio #ResearchDrivenDesign #CustomInteriorDesign #CommercialDesign #DesignProcess #CustomBuilt #DesignAuthorship
